When you are released from prison on licence, you are still serving a prison sentence, but you are allowed to live in the community instead of being in prison. This means you can start to rebuild your life and settle back into the community. Your offender manager and others will help you to do this.
Your licence conditions
When you are on licence, there are conditions, or rules, that you must meet. Your offender manager will talk to you about the conditions of your licence and make sure you understand them. If you do not meet the conditions, you may be recalled (sent back) to prison.
There are six standard conditions in your licence. This means that everyone who is on licence has to meet all of these conditions:
- Behave well. Do not commit an offence and do not do anything that could ruin your chances of resettling back in the community.
- Attend all of your appointments and follow instructions.
- Let your offender manager visit you where you are living if they need to.
- Live at an address that your offender manager says is acceptable. Thell them if you plan to change your address or stay at another address (even for one night).
- Get permission from your offender manager for any job you want to do (paid or unpaid). This means you must tell them if you want to get a job, or you want to change your job.
- Do not travel outside the UK without permission. If you have a very important reason to travel outside the UK, you can ask your offender manager for permission, but it is not usually allowed. You must ask before you make any arrangements or spend money on things like tickets.
