What We Do - Making People Safer, Cutting Crime

Norfolk and Suffolk Probation Trust is responsible for overseeing offenders released from prison on licence and those on community sentences made by judges and magistrates in the courts.

We prepare pre sentence reports for judges and magistrates in the courts to enable them to choose the most appropriate sentence. We also work with victims of crimes where the offender has committed a sexual or violent offence and has been given a prison sentence of 12 months or longer.

We manage three approved premises (hostels) for offenders with a residence requirement on their sentences or licences. We work in every prison in Norfolk and Suffolk, assessing offenders, preparing them for release and running offending behaviour programmes.

As a lead partner in the Multi Agency Public Protection Partnership Arrangements (MAPPA), we manage the most high risk offenders in the community. Norfolk MAPPA and Suffolk MAPPA between them manage over 1,000 sex and violent offenders. The partnerships brings police, prison, social services, mental health and housing staff together to discuss cases. Attention is paid to offenders' behaviour, mental health and housing issues. Offenders deemed to be at critical risk of reoffending or who are not abiding by their licence conditions can be sent back to prison within two hours.
